Yupper, the battery as with all batteries actually has as much as 13.5 to 14 volts in it!
The regulator tries to limit this to just 12 and constant 12...
it adjusts resistance to make more or less voltage flow...so yes the regulator even
controls it with the engine off, to keep the battery itself from frying everything.

P.s:I have never replaced a rectifier on a savage , so I dont know the price.
This will be the first 1 ive heard of go out on a savage.
Ive done other jap bikes though that ran from anywhere around 70$ to 120$.just for parts, so
i dont know exactly.
